Step by Step

Step by Step piece was inspired mainly by the wall itself that I was informed that I would have to acquire a ‘working with ladders ‘certificate that made me have a laugh and a smile and so it all started.

I decided that these ladders would be great if I could knit them leaving them to be totally useless and just fun. This was an exciting and interesting project to get involved with. Being site specific it was even more challenging and interesting, being that this was for The National Trust also I was worried about any type of work I made as there would be a large audience and I assumed most of this audience were elderly or middle class.

I honestly had never been there or had an interest going there as the fear of the costs and also I did not think I would be very interested in the site as I thought ‘it was just a load of old plants’ .Also I didn’t think it would be an interesting place to bring children (Eben proved me wrong he really enjoys it and it is quite educational for him). On the first trip there I was very impressed by all the flowers, species and trees and also the spectacular views that these gardens give. John Lanyon and Thomas Clarke gave us the tour of the gardens stopping to tell us about each part of the gardens and interesting aspects of it. John made an interesting comment that stuck in my head.
"Trelissick gardens is especially proud of the grauations the colour green we have here"
Which made me think about colours which would work well and stand out

These are knitted by using french knitting technique lots of wool, patience and math - which i never thought i was very good at !!
